Olive trees amidst vines: Polyculture at Clos d'Alari

Clos d'Alari, located in Saint Antonin du Var, is a 30-hectare estate, including 6 hectares of vines, making it a small winegrowing estate compared with the local average of 30 to 40 hectares.

We have implemented polyculture on the estate with olive and truffle trees.

We plan to further diversify our production:

  • pistachio,
  • saffron,
  • hemp.

Le Clos d'Alari is not a wine merchant. We only sell wine from our own vineyards.

We have 20 parcels and 8 different grape varieties, including only 1 white: Rolle, and 7 reds: Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Cabernet-sauvignon and Merlot.

Most of these grape varieties are representative of the region and the appellation. The majority of plots benefit from the Côtes de Provence appellation.

While the average production of rosés in Côtes de Provence is over 90%, ours will be below 50% by 2024. We offer all 3 colors, and would like to diversify our offer by implementing less conventional winemaking processes, such as maceration of white grapes, infusion of red grapes in a must of green grapes, and production of natural sparkling wines.

Our soils are clay-limestone. They are alive:

  • no herbicides,
  • no pesticides,
  • no chemical fertilizers.

We are certified organic.

The topography of the site, all around the estate's 2 buildings, with its south-facing, cirque-shaped vines, is highly conducive to the production of quality grapes for wine-making.

We're at an altitude of 300m. The climate is Mediterranean: hot and dry in summer. But it's cold in winter, and above all with very wide day/night temperature variations, which keeps the grapes fresh.

In fact, harvesting begins at night to preserve this freshness, a key factor in the quality of our wines, particularly rosés.
